About the GM Tim

Professional Game Master from Vancouver. Queer. Inclusive. Player-first.

Tim at the table, laughing mid-scene, hands raised as if calling out a player in a moment for something funny.

“With an unwavering enthusiasm, The GM Tim weaves a story and world together with the players – he’s even been known to use castle rooms to set up a scene or a combat rather than a map.”

Tabletop Vacations

I’m The GM Tim (he/him). My enthusiastic theatre-of-the-mind style captivates my players, and my projects generate inspiration and spark creativity.

I became a Game Master (GM) for my friends in 2005, learning from my Yoda who taught me everything he knows. Then in 2017 I launched the brand and began GMing professionally as a D&D Dungeon Master (DM) and other TTRPGs. Since then, I have run thousands of play in North America, Europe, and West Asia for private groups, companies, and conventions. I’m also proud to be a recurring DM at D20 Cruise and D&D in a Castle.

I’m a queer advocate in life and the TTRPG industry. This drives me to find new ways to inspire diversity and creativity in my games. When I’m not building the newest season of Lost Voyages, a Star Trek Adventures actual-play stream, I curate Appendix Lit, a book club that encourages diversity in reading for inspiration in games. I’m always on the lookout for new projects that help me to share practical ways to mine books, movies, TV, and life for story and ideas.

I believe great tables are brave, joyful, and collaborative. From single-night one-shot adventures to every other week ongoing campaigns, premium events, and custom weekends, my games welcome new players and challenge experienced players with fresh scenarios. We set clear expectations, use safety tools, and then relish those character moments that stick with you long after the last roll of the dice. Campaigns and custom weekends run as long as desired. They start with character creation and group cohesion, then dive into character-driven stories. Some have a finite ending; some run for years.
