Pay it somewhere

The anti-hero was nothing new in 1999. And honestly, neither was this movie. It is based off a book written in 1962 called The Hunter. It was the second movie to be adapted from it. The first being Point Blank in 1967. This movie felt. It felt. I don’t know. Forced? I feel like the movie was more concerned with the look and feel of the movie than the movie. Was the movie good? Meh. Was the plot bad? No. Was the protagonist? Yes. He was not a good person and I think the movie struggled with showing that without us wondering “Why are we watching this?” I wondered. A few times.

It got a lot of praise for the noir vibes. It just felt grimy and a bit body-gore-dark. The love interest was jerky to say the least. Maybe it took too long to get explained? Maybe it was just so chauvinistic?

I don’t know. I did not root for the bad guy. I likely will not watch this again for another 25 years if at all. That said, there were some things that could be game-use worthy so I might just grab those bits.
