This movie was fun. Again, a soundtrack that slaps.

I forgot how much criticism there was during and after the 1991 gulf war. The critiques kind of got lost in 2001. This war wasn’t known to people because it was successful, it was known because it was highly televised—though, I don’t remember any moments like this in the ‘reporting’ during the war. I think that was one of the critiques the movie was making, did the West/America reallyhep? I also forgot how much this movie challenged the war rather than glorified it. I am curious if anyone would do a movie like this for the war in Afghanistan for 9/11. It’s been a lot longer than the 8 years this movie had after ’91.

Setting

There were more than a few settings that could be used from this movie in a fantasy or scifi setting. The complex, the cave system, the garage, even the border crossing. All great moments to access and translate into game properties.

Characters

I think all the charatcers in this movie have different elements that would work for any system. The leads match player styles a bit better than character style, planner, chaos element, the focuser, etc.. The NPCs are usable to force moral dilemas. These also work as background or starting points that a charatcer could use.

Story/Hooks

As far as Hooks Go, I think this movie is a great example of what happens when the characters go from “save the day” and treat it like “we got what we want, good luck now”. You could also use this as a great hook for a power vacuum scenario, or even a moral dilema scenario where saving the day might cause more problems.
