Seventh Day of Critmas

Seventh Day of Critmas

On the seventh day of Critmas, my players got from me, seven yeasts a-creeping,
six morels budding,
five glowing shrooms!
four lichen knights,
three molding sprites,
two seedling sprouts,
and a Myconid with spores all around.

Quick Description

Flail Snails are one of my all-time favorite creatures, and using them as inspiration for this myconid felt like a perfect fit. This creeping myconid hides among cave walls and crevices, blending seamlessly into its surroundings. What appear to be claws are actually retractable tentacles it uses to pull food toward its maw. This myconid was the result of experiments gone wrong in a long-forgotten wizard’s tower. These creatures rely more on instinct than intelligence. Amorphous and difficult to distinguish from ordinary cave fungi, they are masters of camouflage.

Reskin Details

  • Original Creature: Flail Snail CR 3
  • Changes: This creature requires a few more to make it fit the theme of myconids.
  • Change the creature type from Elemental to Plant
  • Add the following traits:
    • Amorphous. The yeast can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch without expending extra movement to do so.
    • Stone Camouflage. The yeast has advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made to hide in rocky terrain.
  • Shell Defense becomes Rock Defense. Instead of withdrawing into a shell, it squeezes into a crevice in the rock face, exposing only its hard exterior.

DM Tips

  • Once established in a nest they are hard to get rid of. They are not invasive by nature, but they could be if left unchecked.
  • I would suspect they are harvested for parts by those who know of thier qualitires.
  • Instead of an accident, the Wizard tower releasde them on purpose in order to create a new crop for materials, except they are eating anythign that gets too close

Said the DM to his players here, do You Yeast What I Yeast? What madness will spore on Day eight?
